Frequently asked questions
Common questions about scope, communication, process, and fees. If your question is not covered here, tell us about your Japan operations and we will respond by email.
Can you communicate with our overseas headquarters in English?
Yes. Communication is handled in English or Japanese, primarily by email and shared online documents. Online meetings can be arranged when useful.
Do you also support individuals?
Yes. We support international individuals with Japanese tax filing and related tax matters. This includes, for example, non-residents who receive rental income from property in Japan or other Japan-source income.
Can you prepare reports in our parent company's format?
Yes. We handle this after reviewing the reporting format and the required accounting adjustments.
Can you support both Japanese accounting and IFRS or US GAAP reporting?
Yes. Subject to review of the scope, reporting format, and required adjustments, CKO can support bidirectional adjustments between Japanese accounting and tax requirements and IFRS, US GAAP, or parent-company reporting formats. For local standards other than IFRS or US GAAP, please contact us to confirm whether support is available. Large or complex conversion projects are assessed separately.
Can you manage all bookkeeping and tax filings for our Japan entity?
Yes. We can provide end-to-end support, from accounting through tax compliance.
Can you handle tax filings only?
Yes. Our scope is flexible and can be arranged to fit what you need.
Can you support payroll and social insurance?
Yes. Payroll and year-end adjustment support is available. Labor and social-insurance procedures are handled in coordination with a licensed labor and social security attorney where required.
Can you support the establishment of our company or branch in Japan?
Yes. We support company and branch setup, including the accounting and tax work, required tax registrations, and coordination with licensed professionals where needed.
How are fees determined?
Fees depend on transaction volume, reporting requirements, and the required scope of work.
